Family law cases involve both financial and personal issues that can dramatically affect people’s lives. The litigation of these issues in the domestic relations courts can be an intimidating prospect for the people and families who have been drawn into legal conflicts.”Attorney Jessica Malmquist, currently serving as CLII Board Treasurer, became a Collaborative Fellow in 2012. During her legal career, she has only practiced family law. Jessica believes strongly in the ability of clients to use alternative dispute resolution to retain control of the dissolution process and prevent the often destructive involvement of the Courts. Although Jessica endeavors to resolve cases through amicable negotiations, she is an active and enthusiastic litigator who effectively represents her clients in litigation if required. Because of Jessica’s experience, she is able to help clients determine the best dissolution process for their needs.“I am concerned about my client’s well-being, and committed to providing every client with individualized attention that is oriented toward his or her goals,” says Jessica. “Collaborative Law allows me to help the relationship, seek an amicable resolution when possible, and allow for a mutually beneficial outcome, rather than a having it become a zero-sum game.”Jessica is a member of the Illinois Bar Association and American Bar Association, as well as a Fellow of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois (CLII), member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), and a Board member of CLII. Jessica was formally a member of the Rainbows Young Professional Board.Jessica spent much of her early childhood outside the United States, and returned to the U.S. in her early teenage years, moving to Madison, Wisconsin. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Economics and Management and Psychology from Beloit College and prior to law school, Jessica was a financial analyst at Salomon Smith Barney (now JP Morgan). Jessica obtained her law degree at Case Western Reserve School of Law in Cleveland and then moved to Europe to obtain two more degrees: a Master’s in International Economics and Finance at the University of Glasgow, and an LLM degree in International Commercial Law at the University of Edinburgh. She has practiced at the Law Offices of Alexandra M. Goddard in Barrington, Illinois since 2011. Jessica lives in Oak Park with her Scottish husband and has two and a half year old twins, a girl and a boy.
