Attorney, Law Office of Kathryn R. Engel, PC

Attorney Kathryn Engel, Immediate Past President of CLII, became a Collaborative Fellow in 2007. She has been an active member of the CLII Board for several years. Having served two terms as Secretary, a term as President Elect, and President of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois, Kathryn is uniquely qualified as an advocate for Collaborative Law. Using her training in mediation, collaborative negotiation, and conflict resolution, Kathryn is committed to minimizing conflict, salvaging communication especially when children are involved, and finding solutions that work best for families. She currently owns her own practice, specializing in Family Practice, Collaborative Law and Estate Planning.

“I’m a huge supporter of the International Association of Collaborative Practitioners, Collaborative Institute of Illinois, Collaborative Practice Professionals of Illinois and most recently Wevorce,” says Kathryn. “I have the opportunity to get to know fellow like-minded members, learn and exchange ideas on what and how others are collaborating, and brainstorm with other professionals to offer solutions with whatever challenge we might be facing.” She continues, “Collaborative professionals are a different breed. We are all passionate and committed to the respect and integrity offered through the collaborative process, plus we all share a goal of having families come out better with a non-adversarial approach to divorce.”

Traveling is one of Kathryn’s passions. She and her husband Perry are currently planning a trip to Kenya and Tanzania in September, and in 2016 they plan on venturing to Antarctica. One of her favorite trips was when she visited Egypt in 2008. “Who doesn’t ever dream of seeing the Pyramids in person?” she says. Kathryn is also an animal lover, and currently has two cats, Cosmo and Jerry. “I enjoy a good laugh with the best of them,” says Kathyrn.
With strong ties to the community, Kathryn currently serves on the Zoning Board of the Village of Hinsdale. She has previously served as a Downers Grove Park District Commissioner and an Ex Officio Commissioner of the Village Human Services Commission. She is a member in good standing of the DuPage County Bar Association, the Illinois Bar Association, Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois, and a Fellow and Member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals. Kathryn also volunteers as a service minister through Holy Trinity Parish at the Burgess Square Healthcare Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Westmont, IL.
